Packs of cigarettes are going to get slightly costlier. The Thai Cabinet simply accredited a brand new excise tax construction for cigarettes. According to the Bangkok Post, a 20% tax fee has been applied to the retail worth of cigarettes beneath 60 baht and 40% for packs over 60 baht. The Post says the Cabinet raised the 20% tax price to 25%, whereas Nation Thailand says the Excise Department didn’t announce the exact price, only saying the tax will be higher.
The governor of the Tobacco Authority of Thailand says “The TOAT is worried about the unlawful cigarette commerce which it expects to extend considerably because of the tax rate hike.”
